Class level

We divide our classes into Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced levels. Each level is further subdivided into low, mid, and high levels (see below).                                       

  • Basic-low (zero-starter, no Chinese ability at all)
  • Basic-mid
  • Basic-high

Basic level is also known as “survival level”.  After students complete this level, they will be able to function at a basic level in Chinese speaking society through basic listening and speaking skills. We also train students at this level to type Chinese words, phrases and sentences using phonetic input methods on a computer.

 

  • Intermediate-low
  • Intermediate-mid
  • Intermediate-high

At the Intermediate level, the instructor will start to introduce the following:

1) Written forms of Chinese, which more formal form of Chinese,

2) Chinese newspaper articles

3) Chinese speech forms

4) Special fields of Chinese learning, such as Business Chinese. 

 

  • Advanced-low
  • Advanced-mid
  • Advanced-high

At the advanced level, students will continue to expand their abilities in --

1) Written forms of Chinese, including more formal and traditional uses of Chinese

2) Chinese newspapers,

3) Chinese speech forms

4) Special fields of Chinese learning, including politics, news, society, etc.

5) Short stories

6) Classical Chinese

Students will learn more advanced vocabulary, more complex sentence structure, and more formal paragraph conjunctions for use in speaking, making speeches, and comprehension (typing) to present their points of view.
